PTFE Envelope Gasket — PTFE Skin over Compressed Core

A Kaxite PTFE envelope gasket is a composite sealing element: a molded PTFE shell fully encloses a compressed inner core. The shell delivers the same chemical inertness as solid PTFE, while the internal core — non-asbestos, graphite or elastomer — supplies the compression recovery and anti-creep behaviour that solid PTFE cannot achieve on its own. The result is a flange seal that stays tight under thermal cycling, on large or imperfect flanges, and in aggressive media where a single-material gasket would relax or cold-flow.

Manufactured in Ningbo, China by Kaxite Sealing, our envelope gaskets are supplied in three standard profiles — 1320Y, 1320UR and 1320UE — and cut to ASME B16.5, EN 1092-1, DIN, JIS and GB flange standards. OEM/ODM, bulk wholesale and free samples for qualified buyers.

How the envelope construction works

PTFE Shell (outer skin)

Virgin PTFE, molded around the core to form a seamless envelope. Provides the media-contact surface — chemically inert across pH 0-14, non-stick, non-leaching, FDA-compliant for food and pharmaceutical flanges.

Compressed Core (inner)

Non-asbestos, graphite or elastomer sheet. Absorbs bolt-load variations and recovers under thermal cycling, preventing the creep-related leaks that solid PTFE gaskets develop over time.

Three envelope profiles
1320Y · V-SHAPE

General-purpose envelope

The most widely used profile. Suits low-temperature, low-pressure flanges across chemical, water and general industrial service. Core material selectable by application.

Best for standard flanges
1320UR · U-SHAPE

Large-diameter envelope

U-shaped profile designed for large-diameter flanges handling toxic or hazardous chemicals. Superior recovery on wide faces where bolt-load distribution is uneven.

Best for large / hazardous
1320UE · THICK-CORE

Low-residue envelope

Thick-core construction engineered to reduce inner flange residue and improve sealing against thicker or uneven flange faces. Preferred in pharmaceutical and food flanges.

Best for high-purity flanges

FAQ
What is a PTFE envelope gasket?
A PTFE envelope gasket is a composite sealing element made of a molded PTFE shell (skin) that fully encloses a compressed inner core. The PTFE shell provides the same chemical inertness as solid PTFE, while the inner core — typically non-asbestos, graphite or elastomer — adds compression recovery and anti-creep behaviour that solid PTFE cannot provide on its own.
What is the difference between a PTFE envelope gasket and a pure PTFE gasket?
A pure PTFE gasket is 100% solid PTFE with no core. A PTFE envelope gasket has a PTFE outer shell with a compressed core inside. The envelope design offers better compression recovery and lower bolt-load relaxation, making it more reliable on large or imperfect flanges and under thermal cycling. Pure PTFE is preferred where absolute purity of the sealing material is critical.
What is the temperature and pressure range?
Service temperature range is -100°C to +260°C depending on the core material. Maximum working pressure is typically 50 bar, and depends on gasket thickness, flange size and operating temperature. For extreme conditions, send us the operating parameters and we will recommend a suitable core and envelope profile.
Which envelope profile should I choose — 1320Y, 1320UR or 1320UE?
1320Y (V-shape) is the standard general-purpose profile for low-temperature, low-pressure service. 1320UR (U-shape) is used for large-diameter flanges carrying toxic or hazardous chemicals. 1320UE (thick-core) is designed to reduce inner flange residue and improve sealing on thicker flange faces.
Are the gaskets FDA compliant for food and pharmaceutical use?
Yes. The PTFE envelope is made from virgin PTFE conforming to FDA 21 CFR 177.1550, and is RoHS and REACH compliant. This makes the gasket suitable for food, dairy, beverage and pharmaceutical flanges where the contact surface must not leach into the process media.
What is the MOQ, lead time and sample policy?
MOQ is flexible and depends on gasket size and core material. Standard lead time is 7-15 days after order confirmation. Free samples are available for qualified buyers — send us the flange standard, nominal size, envelope profile (1320Y / 1320UR / 1320UE) and core material, and we will confirm sample lead time.
